Located in Dansoman, Accra, EKGS Culinary Institute was established in 1991 as EKGS Enterprise, a confectionery providing food services to its extensive clientele with the onslaught and transformed into an institute in march 1998 as a training center providing training programs in the field of culinary art.

With a few but impressive students enrolment then, the institute now enjoys an enviable student participation in its culinary training programs both from within and internationally. Presently, EKGS Culinary Institute runs intensive courses with flexible tuition payment plans and sessions to meet the need of all by offering contemporary, progressive programs covering both the design and business aspects of the culinary industry.

Students are given the opportunity to work with varieties of modern tools and equipment as well as access to support based well-stocked retail outlets to provide all the needs of students and partners in culinary industry. The diverse curriculum attract men and women across the globe with various aspirations; plans to become a designer or chef for retail or work independently as a freelance designer or chef, a goal of owning and operating their own business or desire to acquire design skills and knowledge for personal enjoyment.

Above all, the institute is constantly in tune with the changing trends in the provision of culinary services offered. The curriculum of the culinary program is constantly undergoing revision to meet international standards. Indeed there is always something new at EKGS Culinary Institute. Our hallmark is to never stand still. We have from our beginning shown our students how to achieve the decorating looks that reflects today's tastes.

BACKGROUND

Efua Otuwaa Goode

EKGS CULINARY INSTITUTE, a private culinary training school based in Accra was established on 8th March,1991 as a culinary service provider courtesy the initiative of Efua Otuwaa Goode. An inquiry into what inspired her on this is based on the drive for challenges and Efua's passion for the culinary arts. This is quite significant owing to the underdevelopment of the private sector industry in Ghana by then as against Efua's zeal to run a private enterprise at that time.

The institute, then a culinary service provider was primarily offering catering service then to the Ghanaian public. Ekgs Culinary Institute has had quality product brands as it flagship and the transformation of this establishment from a traditional culinary service provider to a total culinary service provider ( training and service provider) stems from this unique feature. As a result of the unique and extraordinary service, its extensive clientele called for the provision of culinary training. Guided by the principle of not settling for less. The institute runs a three- year training development program which involved training of in-house staff to meet standards. Humble beginnings though challenging, saw enterprise being transformed into culinary Institute with just six(6) students and providing courses in cake making and decorating(sugar Art) and pastry Art.

Today, the institute runs a comprehensive training package with tuition cutting across the following courses;

  1. CAKE MAKING AND DECORATING WITH SUGAR ART/Wilton USA/PME(UK) Diploma Courses
  2. PASTRY ART
  3. COOKERY ART
  4. FLORAL, BALLOON AND RIBBON DECOR
  5. WILTON (USA)
  6. PME (UK)

The institute has since transformed and attracted students from the Sub-region and has provided top-notch chefs and cuisine staff for the nation’s top hotels and other cuisine houses. This institute now has a graduating class of 116 students and has trained over 3,000 students both within and outside the country. It is worthy to note that the institute runs these courses within a stream of six(6) months. The course is run under an intensive scheme and course curriculum is subjected to a review annually to meet international standards. The vision of this institute is to become the best culinary training house in the country by all standards by year 2015. Indeed, our students, service clients and the general public testify to the cutting edge solutions provided by EKGS Institute in Ghana's culinary industry. A vivid example to this is how the institute has embraced technology over the years. The first to introduce edible photo cakes, the first to introduce e-business in Ghana's Culinary industry. Currently , the first and only culinary Institute offering PME (UK) and Wilton USA Courses.
